Time to Celebrate with Movie Magic

4/13/2018

We had a fun and relaxing afternoon on Friday when we all headed to the hall with blankets, cushions and cuddly toys in tow to watch the movie Inside Out. We also had popcorn which made for a great cinema experience here at school. The reason for this special treat was to celebrate the fact that we got fabulous feedback from our Curriculum Evaluation in SPHE (Social, Personal & Health Education) which took earlier in the week.

Two inspectors from the Department of Education & Skills, Eileen O’Sullivan & Mary Dunne spent Tuesday and Wednesday with us.Over the course of the two days, they examined policy, planning and procedures and discussed SPHE provision in our school with Ms Naughton, Ms Moran & Ms Callery. They visited every class in the school to observe teaching and learning and spent time speaking with teachers about approaches, programmes and accountability as well as talking to the boys and girls. The inspectors also met with children on our Green Schools and Active Schools committees.

The inspector’s final report will be published in the next few weeks and we will share it with you then. The  detailed oral feedback they gave us could not have been more positive. Every aspect of our work was commended as was the climate and atmosphere of our school, the positive relationships among members of our school community and the stimulating and well-resourced learning experiences provided to children. The children’s engagement, manners and communication skills were commended as was the quality of their work. Everyone was acknowledged for the contribution they make. The sense of community and belonging underpinned by kindness and respect that exists in our school was noted.

Can I offer my thanks to everyone for all that they bring to our lives here at school? Children, Class and Support teachers, SNAs, Ancillary Staff, Parents and Board of Management all work together to create something special.  It is wonderful to have had this formally acknowledged over the last few days. Thanks are also due to Eileen O’Sullivan and Mary Dunne for the positive, fair and professional manner in which they conducted the evaluation.

Enjoy the photos!
