Good morning parents and guardians.
I hope you and yours remain safe and well during these strange times. As you will have heard school will now remain closed up to and including April 19th. We will continue to support you and the children as as best we can. Please remember that you can contact us on info@hopejns.ie at any time and we will get back to you without delay.
Many thanks to all the staff of the school who have been working hard to ensure suitable work is made available as well as getting to grips with planning with colleagues remotely and holding virtual staff and team meetings. Staff are missing the daily contact with our wonderful school children and are managing their commitment to them with their own home schooling challenges and care and concern for their own children, older family members and friends.
I have attached some informatiom from the DES giving advice to young people on how to manage their time durimg this crisis. You may find some of it useful when chatting to your children. There is some helpful information for children with special educational needs on www.ncse.ie from the Speech & Language and Occupational Therapy perspective too.
Teachers have sent more suggested activities in the morning but please remember that these are simply suggestions. As ever you know your child and your circumstances best so plese do what works for you. The most important thing for now is to have a routine to your childs day, encourage them to be active, engage in a variety of activities, chat, reassure, exercise, read and play together. Take time to say a little prayer together if this is part of your family’s culture.
Maybe take this opportunity to help your child develop essential life skills like taking responsibility, helping to prepare meals, basic house work, gardening or simple baking. You could also encourage them to accomplish a new skill like riding their bike without stabilisers, learning a dance routine or skipping. Help them have a telephone conversation or write a letter, email or postcard to a special person they cant visit at the moment. The priority for now has to be everyones health and wellbeing - we will catch up on the rest when we are back together in school again.
Thank you for all that you do for your children. Stay safe and well.
