We would really like to encourage all of our boys and girls to keep reading while the schools are closed. While we cannot supply daily and weekly books for you, we can share with you some lovely websites that you and your child can view to enjoy books together.
www.storyonline.net Storyonline is a lovely site where well known actors read books aloud to the children. Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading.
www.worldstories.co.uk is a collection of stories from around the world told in a number of different languages.
www.storyberries.com is another great site with a range of books from 5 minutes quick reads to bedtime stories to audiobooks and podcasts.
https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/ is a great site to continue to support your child to read at their level. Choose the book band your child is currently reading in school and you will be provided with a selection of Oxford Reading tree books at that level.
Although the libraries are closed, Fingal library members have free access to borrow box. Through www.borrowbox.com or though their app, you can borrow audiobooks.across a wide number of genres and topics.
www.vooks.com is a lovely site that allows you to read animated books. The selection of books and the animations are really engaging but be warned - after the first month there is a fee and they require credit card details to access the months free trial!
www.getepic.com is another great site but like vooks, they charge after the first month and also require credit card details to sign up.
We will keep you up to date with other activities, websites and games after the Bank Holiday. In the meantime, stay safe everyone and don't forget to take some time to enjoy a good book!
