We had a super day in Mary, Mother of Hope JNS last Wednesday when three members of the Irish Defence Forces came to visit our school. Captain John Quinn spoke to the boys and girls about the Proclamation of Independence and was helped out by two of our 2nd class children in reading the Proclamation. We learned about our national flag and found out some interesting facts about caring for and flying our flag. We were presented with a flag of our own. We were very proud of the boys and girls who sang Amhrán na bhFiann and our school anthem beautifully. On March 15th we will raise our flag along with every other primary school in the country to mark the 1916 celebrations.
